Planning a Home Renovation in New Rochelle and Westchester

Start with how you use the house
List the rooms that frustrate you every day. For most families that is the kitchen, then a primary or shared bathroom, then unused basement space. Starting there gives you the most daily benefit per dollar.
Realistic budget ranges

Permits in Westchester
Each city and village, including New Rochelle, Larchmont and Pelham Manor, runs its own building department with its own forms and inspection schedule. Structural work, new plumbing or electrical circuits and basement living spaces typically need permits. Build permit review time into your schedule, and have your contractor handle the filings.
Basements: check for moisture first
Many older Westchester homes have basements that are dry most of the year but take on water in heavy storms. Waterproofing and proper drainage should come before framing, insulation and drywall, never after.
Painting and drywall as finishing upgrades
