Porcelain slab / sintered stone — countertops for NYC renovations

About porcelain slab / sintered stone

Sintered porcelain slabs are fired at extremely high temperature, producing a surface that is non-porous, UV-stable, heat-proof, and remarkably thin — often 6 to 12 mm.

The low weight is a real advantage in walk-up buildings and on cabinetry that can't carry a 3 cm stone slab.

Specifier's tips

  • Requires a fabricator experienced with thin slab — chipping risk during cutting
  • Mitred edges are standard to create a thicker apparent profile
  • Ideal outdoors and on sunny terraces where quartz would fade

Frequently asked

Is porcelain slab fragile?

Once installed on a proper substrate it's extremely durable. The vulnerability is during transport and fabrication.

Can it be used as flooring too?
